Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown, cut, engraved. Tapered, straight-sided bowl, with flared, contracting base; engraved scroll and foliate border; sides with three engraved vignettes within elaborate borders: a large building with elaborate facade in one vignette; a scene with two ships sailing in rough water, inscribed in a ribband above in script "Het Well Vaeren", in the second vignette; and in the third, a merchant in a loaded wagon drawn by horses, in front of a walled city, with a ribband above, inscribed in script "Van de Negotie"; the elaborate borders filled with scrolls, flowers, foliage, cherubs, and tiny vignettes of sailing ships and other mercantile symbols; the base of the bowl with cut flutes and scales; stem with two mereses above a faceted ball knop, two mereses, a paneled and faceted inverted baluster, and basal capstan; large circular foot with engraved foliate scrolls on top, polished oval facets on the underside; ground rim; rough pontil mark.
