Physical DescriptionColorless, non-lead glass; blown, molded, cut, engraved. (a) Tapered, paneled bowl; engraved on one side with a vignette of a palm tree and another, ovoid, bush alongside, a hand holding a quill pen writes the word "bestendig" on the trunk of the palm tree; inscribed in a circle around the vignette "Redligkeit schreibt eigenhandig. Wahre freund schafft bleibt (bestendig)"; surrounded by baroque scrollwork; facet-cut baluster stem with mereses above and below;square foot with hollow cut corners; engraved foliate scrolls and initials "J G V.H."; cut ovals on the underside of foot; (b-d) domed cover forming a bottle, panel-cut sides, with engraved foliate scrolls; short neck with cut threads; a tapered, hollow sleeve (c) with open side, and with cut threading on the inside and outside screws into the cover and projects through a hole in its base; a panel-cut and faceted acorn finial (d) with threaded shank screws into the sleeve.
