Physical DescriptionAlmost colorless, with greenish tinge; many small bubbles. Blown; facet- and linear-cut. Dish: shallow. Rim plain, slightly inturned, and with external bevel; wall curves down and in; base plain and uneven; no pontil mark. Decoration is facet-cut on wall and linear-cut on underside of base. Wall has two continuous horizontal rows of hollow oval facets; upper row had about 85 relatively short facets, and lower row had 80 mostly longer facets. Decoration on base is composed of grooves up to 0.6 cm wide: two concentric circles at edge of base contain large square panel with double border; panel is divided into four squares of equal size by two intersecting grooves that form cross; each arm of cross has, on either side, one narrower groove, and it has, at outer end, two pairs of diagonal cuts, which occupy corners of small squares and create effect not unlike serifs; each small square also contains one oval motif with single border.Provenance
