Physical DescriptionTranslucent yellowish-white, opaque brick red non-lead glasses, silver; blown, layered, and cut, repoussé silver mounts. Tall, cylindrical, straight-sided shape; red overlay on translucent creamy white; spray of chrysanthemum flowers and foliage on stems engraved through the red layer into the white layer below; the bottom of the vase polished flat, with polished concave pontil mark; silver mounts on the top and bottom; the top rim mount rounded, with relief-molded flowers, foliage, and acorns below; the mount at the bottom with similar flowers, foliage, and acorns above a wide, rounded foot with a relief-molded wreath of stylized foliage tied with ribbons; two stamped hallmarks, each, on the silver mounts: on the lower mount, one above the acorns (a helmeted head in an octagonal frame, stamped over and partially erasing a maker's mark in a diamond-shaped frame, revealing only the letter "F"); the other mark on the foot rim (a maker's mark in a diamond frame, with "A" above an animal, above "F" -- presumably identical to the partially-erased mark, above); the ones on the upper mount identical, the helmeted head alongside an acorn, the maker's mark below a chrysanthemum to the right.Provenance
