Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown, trailed, pincered, enameled. (a) Straight-sided, conical bowl, with rounded base; brown enameled wash continuous landscape and a fly, with a hunting scene of dogs attacking a fallen stag, while two hunters with spears rush in for the kill, a castle in the background; elaborate stem with thin disk at the top on a short stem, hollow ball knop and hollow inverted baluster, with trailed "S" handles at either side, with pincered trailings; thin disk and angular capstan at the base of the stem; circular foot with dark brown enameled delicate swags of fruit tied with ribbons on the top; folded rim; rough pontil mark; inscribed in a ring around the pontil mark in dark brown enamel "johan Anthon Carli Andernacensis inv. Fecit". (b) Domed form with folded rim and tapered brim; twelve male portrait heads, facing each other in pairs, enameled in dark brown wash enamel on the sides, all but one man wearing a laurel wreath; inscribed below each portrait, on the rim, "iulius Caesar/vittellius/Vespasianus/Augustus/Caligula/Tiberius/ Claudi-us/Galba/Nero/Otto/titus/dominianus"; applied hollow dumbbell finial, mounted on two disks, with tiny button finial on two disks above; trailed "S" handles on either side, with pincered trailings; pontil mark inside.
