Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown (probably mold-blown), cut, enameled, stained, gilded. Waisted shape with flared, thick, disk-shaped foot; the rim polished flat on top and chamfered on the inside and gilded; the sides with stained, enameled, and gilded decoration; a rectangular panel on the front, outlined with a stained and gilded foliate border, enclosing a transparent enameled landscape scene, with a long, curving road with two switch-backs, a cart in the foreground, with more carts and riders in the distance, and two large trees at the right; a rectangular stained panel below, inscribed "Die neue Strasse bey Karlsbad" in gilded script; the reverse side with notched stained and gilded band at the top, with scattered florets; a linear stained band at the bottom, with entwined gilded vine; the sides of the foot cut with vertical notches, outlined with gilding; the bottom polished flat, with cut star, decorated with amber stain; inscribed "326" in white paint on the bottom.Provenance
