Physical DescriptionClear glass with a few bubbles; free-blown and enameled. Body flaring slightly to rim and at bottom, slightly pushed up base with very rough pontil mark, applied foot ring; enamel decoration: on the obverse a coat of arms with a pelican feeding its young with its own blood, light blue against a yellow background, surmounted by a wreath flanked by: "C.M." and framed by two large branches; on the reverse two men (miners), predominantly in black and light blue; the left one plays a flute, the right one holds a beaker similar to the object described here, apparently filled with red wine; in between the two figures the date "1699"; below a strip of grass, above the pair an inscription: "Wenn die saure Schicht volbracht die Cyther unsz Recht frolich macht" (When the sour shift is over then the guitar makes us rather happy); below rim a band consisting of a narrow yellow strip with a wavy line and little dots accompanied by two rows of white beads, below a blue and a yellow line; white dashes on the foot ring; an old catalogue number in white on the pontil mark: "15".Provenance
