Physical DescriptionClear glass with minute bubbles and slight green tinge; free- blown, enameled and gilded. (a) Almost cylindrical body slightly tapering at lower part and rim, with high pushed up base having rough pontil mark, foot ring formed of same gather; (b) set-in flanged, domed cover with multi-knopped finial, having a flat lower and a smaller higher knop which supports the stemmed terminal knop; the enamel decoration: double headed eagle in black and white with blue halos framed by yellow and with orb of state in blue, yellow bands heightened in blue and red and surmounted by the cross scepter in yellow, the halos behind the heads in blue and yellow, on the wings the multicolored coats-of-arms of the parts of the Holy Roman Empire, along the bottom green grass tufts, on the reverse bottom a flower spray with three blossoms in red, blue and yellow, on the top: "Gott behude und Erhalte dasz Heillige Romische Reich mit seinen gelidern alle zu gleich Gottes guht und Treu Ist alle morgenn neu"; underneath the inscription two white star rosettes and a few smaller rosettes; flanking the heads: "ANNO 1674"; around the heads also little spiral and rosette motifs in white; white dashes on the foot ring, below rim a gilded band (rubbed off) accompanied by white U-lines; dashes on the cover, flange and on the shoulder an elaborate frieze consisting of four multicolored blossom-like ornaments accompanied by white volute-like motifs, alternating with groups of horizontal yellow bars flanked above and below by green blossom-like motifs; below the shoulder band a frieze of yellow circles enclosing red and blue pearls and accompanied by five white lines above and below.Provenance
