Physical DescriptionColorless. Blown; relief-cut. Fragment from wall of bowl (TTh. 0.4 cm) with convex profile, decorated in relief (Th. up to 0.2 cm). At top of fragment, short section of horizontal rib, presumably upper border of frieze. Surviving part of frieze consists of roundel, perhaps with outer and inner borders (see “Comment”; est. D. of latter is about 7 cm). Roundel contains animal, which stands, facing left. It has triangular head with pointed snout, large oval eye, short ears, and curved horns, which are shown as if from above. Extending downward from its mouth is long, beardlike element. Front legs are incomplete, but hind legs terminate in hooves. Tail is long and thin. Border of frieze is plain, but all other outlines, including borders of roundel, are notched; body of animal has two rows of drilled dots; details of snout and hooves are indicated by single cuts; and lower part of tail has herringbone pattern of short, narrow cuts.
