Physical DescriptionPale yellowish green, transparent glass; blown, abraded, engraved. Segmental bowl. Rim slightly everted, with cracked-off lip; wall curves down and in and merges with base; no pontil mark. Decoration on outside but intended to be viewed from inside: (when seen from inside) roundel (D. 12.0 cm), with solid border (W. 0.4 cm), which contains man standing to left but with torso shown frontally, his right arm bent at elbow but with hand extended, perhaps in gesture of greeting; his head is in profile, with hair, indicated by short parallel cuts, growing down back of neck and with large diamond-shaped eye; he wears tunic, which is gathered or belted at waist, and boots; his left arm nags down and in his left hand he carries large, pear-shaped object (see COMMENT);to left of figure, plant or shrub with tall sinuous stem, which has one short branch terminating in cluster of five oval leaves, one spiral tendril, and, at its end, cluster of seven oval leaves; to right of figure, plant or shrub with two branches, each with six pairs of oval leaves and , at its end, single oval leaf. Above figure, and between plants, Greek inscription: ??e ??C?C, “Drink! May you live [a long life]!”Provenance
