Physical DescriptionTurbid yellow-green background with canes of opaque red, opaque white, opaque yellow, translucent medium blue and translucent amethyst, broken dull surface with pitting; mosaic glass or millefiori technique, polished. Slice of a large rectangular plaque, fragment preserves portion of a female head probably a maenad or grotesque mask with elaborate hairdo, waves picked out with thin amethyst bands in the red matrix, a braid preserved near eye, an elaborate red crown or filet with random yellow stars preserved in amethyst centers; the woman has a white face, an amethyst pupil is highlighted with liner, eyebrow and lash of medium blue.Provenance
