Physical DescriptionColorless. Blown; linear-cut. Beaker shaped like truncated cone. Rim plain and ground flat; wall straight and tapering; base flat; pontil mark (D. perhaps about 1.2 cm) almost completely removed by grinding. Wall is decorated with two hastily executed, continuous linear-cut friezes, which begin 2.5 cm below rim and end 0.6 cm above bottom. Upper frieze has two horizontal border lines at top. It consists of arcade of (originally) eight segmental arches supported on columns with capitals; arches are indicated by single lines, and columns and capitals by pairs of parallel lines; spandrels between arches are filled with crosshatching or V-shaped motifs. Upper and lower friezes are separated by narrow band with single borders at top and bottom; band contains pairs of transverse cuts alternating with short horizontal cuts. Lower frieze has arcade of seven arches similar to upper arcade, but with V-shaped motifs in every spandrel. Between rim and upper frieze, one short, possibly epigraphic motif.Provenance
