Physical DescriptionFour fragments of uniform metal and curvature and so possibly from a single vessel; transparent colorless; carved in relief. a) Fragment from upper part of bottle. Bottom of neck perhaps cylindrical; shoulder slopes and merges with wall, which curves down, out, and in. Decorated in relief: at top of shoulder, horizontal rib; at bottom of shoulder, second horizontal rib, which probably formed upper border of frieze; surviving part of frieze contains, in Kufic, letter kaf with hatched foliate terminal; to left of letter, stem ending in two scrolls. b) Part of slightly convex side wall with diameter of curvature about 6 cm; above a horizontal raised band, two notched elements and below, arcade of round arches. c) Fragment from wall of vessel. Wall (TTh. 0.2 cm) curves out, down, and in. Decorated in relief (Th. 0.1cm) with small part of frieze with two fragmentary elements: (1) three Kufic letters with notched stems and hatched floriated terminals and (2) bird shown in profile, facing left; it has small head with eye indicated by countersunk dot, deep body, and wing raised above back; neck and wing are hatched.Provenance
