Physical DescriptionClear heavy glass; free-blown, cut and engraved (Fiefschnitt and Hochschnitt). (a) Flat pedestal foot with ground pontil mark, solid heavy cylindrical stem with two circlets of tears at top leading over into conical bow; (b) set-in slightly domed cover (originally not belonging to bowl) with baluster finial having collar at stem and a knop at top; engraved and cut decorations: on upper foot two rows of grooves, the stem has two rows of raised scales, each scale containing an oval, on the bowl an elaborate scene, framed by rings and rows of disks above and below: Neptune resting beside an urn and holding a trident, and a tree, in large scale, a shepherd with sheep, a village, trees, three boats on a river and a stag hunt in small scale; above the stag hunt: "Salus Patriae", underneath the frieze a zigzag band of flutes; along greatest circumference of cover a band of rectangles and small disks, on top and on baluster finial highly raised scales, collar and knop of finial are notched and ground.
