Physical DescriptionClear glass with yellow tinge and many minute bubbles and impurities; free-blown, enameled and gilded. Almost cylindrical body, slightly tapering at rim, with high pushed up base having rough pontil mark, applied foot ring; enamel decoration: black double-headed eagle, the design of the feathers apparently done in a greenish greyish color which is now hardly recognizable; between the crowned heads of the eagle a third large crown with two scarf-like ribbons in blue with red tassels emerging from it; on the breast, the portrait of the Emperor Leopold, on the wings the portraits of the seven Electors of Kurfursten; the eagle has in its right claw a scepter and a blue sword and holding in his left claw the orb of state crowned by a yellow cross; below: "1672"; below rim a gilded band (partly rubbed off) with rows of white beads forming elongated ovals and diamonds, the band being accompanied by rows of white beads and U-shaped lines; on the foot ring white dashes; the inscription on the glass is as follows: the medallion of the Emperor who has long black hair and is crowned by a green wreath is accompanied by the following: "Leopold D. G. Roman Emperat. Semp. August. German. Hungarn. Bohm. Rex etc. argi Dux Austria"; the medallions of the Electors are identified by the inscription: "CHUR TRIER-CHUR COLLN - Chur MEINTZ - CHUR BEYER - CHUR SACHSEN-CHUR BRANDENBURG - CHUR PFALTZ", above the emperor: "Consilio Et Industria"; on the reverse is the following inscription: "Dieses Ist der Heylige Krantz Im welchen Teuschland branget, Dar an dem vatterlandt Seinn gluck und worhlstandt hanget. Dasz band ist Lieb und Treu. dasz diesen Krantz macht fest. dadurch das Teusche Reich Erhalden wirdt best. Der Bund blumen Schmuck. Tregt nicht gemeinne nahmen.
