Physical DescriptionColorless lead glass; blown, cut, engraved, polished. Tall covered goblet with hochsnitt and tiefschnitt engraving; domed cover with inset flange has tall, straight faceted finial top decorated with relief-carved crown over an open book surrounded by stars; top of cover, finial base are twenty-one coats of arms in shields in two staggered rows; inscribed around rim in block letters: "HERRN PROFESSOR HUGO STEINER/PRAG/DEM PRAESIDENTEN DER INTERNATIONALEN BUCHKUNSTAUSTELLUNG 1927 GEWIDMET VOM RATE DER STADT LEIPZIG"; goblet has straight sided bowl with ground and polished rim with relief-engraved profile portrait on front, encircled by inscription "HUGO STEINER / PRAG / LEIPZIG/ 1927"; evenly spaced around rest of bowl are two deeply engraved coats of arms each surrounded by clouds, stars and flanking pair of putti (one crest has a lion on left and vertical bars on the right identified in Neubecker/Rentzmann, Wappenbilder Lexicon as "Leipzig"; second has double-headed eagle which could be from of many Germanic states, demi-griffin crest holding what appears to be a staff with two cushions in the center of the shaft); solid, massive straight stem cut in five bands of facets; flared domed foot with slightly concave ground rim; no pontil; inscribed at lower right of bust: "W.v.E.".
