Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown, cut, engraved, gilt. Ovoid bowl, with ovoid well at the center; gilt rim, with band of cut small oval facets below; engraved decoration on the sides, including a wide landscape with elaborate city in the background, three kneeling soldiers, with three swords crossed on the ground in front of them; trees at either side; inscribed on the reverse "Und der Herr verlieh Ihnen den Sieg/Sie aber sanken nieder und danKten/und beteten zum Herrn. Leipzig/den 18. OKt. anno. 1813./Franz/Alexander/Friedrich Wilhelm", the latter three names at either side of an below a bird in flight, carrying a wreath in its beak; cut scallops and oval facets, a gilt band, and pentagonal facets at the base of the bowl; gilt cylindrical band above a faceted, grooved ovoid knop containing multiple air beads, arranged in a circle of eight around one, above a cut cylinder, and gilt basal ball knop; domed foot with cut, gilt band near the stem, and rounded panels containing oval facets; rough pontil mark.Provenance
