Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; mold-blown, cut, enameled, gilt. Paneled, four-sided shape; short, wide, flared neck; the rim polished and gilt; black enameled band of foliage and scrollwork, with fine gilt tracery, below; trailed ring, with a further band of minute scrollwork below; spreading gently curved shoulder, panel-cut, with an incised ring; the sides with four paneled faces, each with cut shallow vertical panels; decorated in black enamel, with gilt tracery; two with elaborate scrollwork frames and baldachinos, enclosing figures of men, wearing knee breeches, carrying hunting horns, and with pikes or spears over their shoulders; the faces at the sides with elaborate scrollwork panels incorporating figures of deer or mountain goats, stag's heads, and squirrels; polished, rounded, concave panels at the corners, between the faces, with pairs of cut horizontal grooves; cut and gilt groove arcs at the base; flared pedestal foot with elaborate black-enameled and gilt scrollwork band; faceted foot rim with gilt line; polished linked oval facets on the inside of the foot; black enameled "JlL/M" monogram in the center of the bottom; white paper tape inscribed "C226.22/28" in red ballpoint ink on the bottom.Provenance
