Interpretive Notes
Large goblets, engraved with family coats of arms, were proudly displayed in the public reception rooms of castles and palaces.
Physical DescriptionColorless and transparent dark green non-lead glasses; blown, engraved. (a) Large green bucket bowl with rounded base; engraved on one side with an elaborate coat of arms, on the opposite side an elaborately scrolled inscription "Aúgúst dem Held zu Sachssen/muss nie kein Leid zú wachssen"; tall colorless stem composed of two discs above a hollow cylindrical section, two discs, hollow flattened ball, two discs, hollow cylinder, two discs, hollow inverted baluster, and two discs; colorless circular foot with folded rim and engraved foliate wreath; rough pontil mark. (b) Domed green shape with folded rim and inset brim, with engraved wreath of foliage with polished berries; tall colorless finial composed of a berry-prunted hollow inverted baluster, above two discs, hollow flattened ball knop, two discs, hollow cylindrical section, and two discs; rough pontil mark on the inside of the cover.
