This vessel is carved from natural rock crystal. Carved hardstones were highly prized by wealthy collectors.
Physical DescriptionOrnamental Pouring Vessel. Rock Crystal Vessel in the Shape of a Mythological Beast. Carved rock crystal, with ruby (glass ?) inserts. Boat-shape vessel (made from two pieces); grotesque heads at either end, one with open mouth for pouring, both with ruby (glass ?) eyes; sides and base gadrooned; underside with two short shanks for attachment to original (probably metal) foot.
