Physical DescriptionTranslucent white lead glass; blown-molded, enameled, acid-etched. Classical vase shape, matte surface with rounded, incurved rim, waisted neck, ovoid body; enameled black foliate border at the rim; enameled black Greek key band on the shoulder; sides decorated with a depiction of "Theseus killing the Minotaur" on one side, with a man wearing a toga, holding a club, wrestling a male figure with the head and horns of a bull; on the reverse, the Oracle and Manto, with a central figure sitting on a tripod vessel, holding a bowl in his upraised right hand, a woman at the left, toga-clad, with upraised right arm, and another woman at the right, holding a small jug in her left hand; black enamel Greek key border below; bell-shaped foot with black enamel foliate band; disk foot below; transfer printed registry mark on the underside, for 1847 (Class III at top, categories "F" at top of diamond, "6" at right, "2" at bottom, "I" at left, inscribed "RICHARDSON'S / VITRIFIED" in a ribband above; two rectangular panels with cut corners, one inscribed "THESEUS slaying the MIN[OTAUR] / from an Antique [Vase?]" and "The Oracle declaring to Manto what / the God had fixed to be her lot. / Vase with this elegant subject...[?]"; thick rough pontil with iron mark at the center.
