Physical DescriptionOpaque olive green glass appearing translucent violet in transmitted light; applied, tooled and cut on wheel. Roughly triangular fragment, apparently consisting of short section of horizontal flange rim, D: perhaps about 9 cm, but possibly greater with applied handle-like projection, originally about 6 cm wide and 4.2 cm deep; projection rises slightly towards extremity; upper surface tooled and wheel-cut in form of free-standing human or humanoid head with hair beginning immediately above eyebrows, deep-set eyes with prominent pupils, hooked nose and wide half-open mouth, all crudely and deeply cut; sides of head flat, with neither hair nor ears; short neck; shoulders and upper arms almost flat, following curve of rim, embellished with long parallel cuts; behind shoulders, one perpendicular cut, behind which surface of projection is plain except for one or two diagonal cuts near extremity.Provenance
