Physical DescriptionAlmost colorless, with yellowish tinge. Blown; linear- and slant-cut. Beaker: roughly cylindrical. Rim plain, with top ground flat; wall almost straight, but with slightly concave profile, and tapering; base plain; pontil mark consists of irregular scar (L. 1.5 cm). Linear-cut decoration, with few slant-cut embellishments, on wall: single frieze bordered at top by pair of continuous horizontal lines 3.4–3.7 cm below rim, and at bottom by single horizontal line 0.9 cm above base. Frieze is completely filled with two similar animals moving from right to left. Each has head shown en face, and rest of body and limbs in profile. Head is shaped like rectangle, but is narrower at bottom than at top; eyes are indicated by single pointed oval, and muzzle by triangle that consists of bottom of head and two straight lines that converge at oval. Body has double outline; neck is filled with transverse hatching, horizontal band at bottom of neck by zigzag, and rest of body by crosshatching. Left shoulder is long and oval, left leg is very short and extended forward, and foot is hatched. Right foreleg is raised in front of chest; its foot is hatched. Left haunch resembles simple half-palmette, with slant-cut volute at top and hatching lower down; left leg is short, and foot is hatched. Right hind leg is much longer and extends forward; again, foot is hatched. Tail hangs down; it is long, pointed oval filled with hatching. Each animal carries unidentified object on its back: two vertical lines, which are separated by cross, are linked by curved line at top and terminate in outward-pointing slant-cut volutes; volute on viewer’s right has curved beaklike projection.Provenance
