Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown, cut zwischengold technique. (a) Tapered, straight-sided bowl with rounded base; panel-cut; double-walled, enclosing scene in gold foil of horse drawing chariot with man and woman within, inscribed above "ICH HABE MEIN FRAV INS BADTGE/SCHICKT DIE KRANCKE" and on the other side woman in bed, having just given birth to child held by a female companion, and inscribed above "SIE HABEN SIE HINTEN VNDT FORNE/GEFLICKT ICH DANKE"; band of scrolled foliage below, with silver foil foliate medallion with checkered center at bottom; stem composed of a merese above a flattened, facet-cut knop, merese, faceted inverted baluster, and capstan; circular foot with a ring of cut ovals and radial lines on the underside; rough pontil mark. (b) Flat-domed, circular shape with inset flange; panel-faceted sides; inset circular medallion on top, enclosing a gold foil floral and scroll border surrounding a foliate medallion with cross-hatched center; facet-cut finial composed of ball knop above larger ball knop and baluster, on merese.
