Physical DescriptionColorless glass with faint greenish-gray tinge, and seeds; opaque light blue, very bubbly glass; mold-blown, applied, gilt, crackled. Slightly pointed hemispherical body with slightly widening, furnace-opened collar neck; joined with avolio to hollow blown lion-mask stem of inverted baluster form; joined with avolio and a smaller, thin disk to shallow, blown foot with infolded rim and rough pontil mark. Bowl up to shoulder has been treated with “ice-glass” process, including flattened applied thread on shoulder. Applied three raspberry prunts with inset blue beads (one missing), alternating with three larger pads impressed with human masks. Lion mask stem with applied gold leaf, crackled during mold-blowing process; two lion masks alternating with quatrefoil rosettes above beaded garlands, with gadrooning above (14 ribs) and below (10 ribs). Glass is fairly solid. Blue glass apparently owes its opacity to the many bubbles. Ice glass is rough outside, and also, but to slightly lesser degree, outside.Provenance
