Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown, cut, engraved, gilt. Ovoid bowl with gilt rim; engraved coat of arms on one side, surmounted by a helmet with crown and horns, within elaborate rococo frame; inscribed in script below, "von Monster", linked with tied ribbons to another, similar shield and coat of arms surmounted by a helmet with crest of a bird's wings, inscribed in script below "von Grotthaus"; inscribed on the reverse in script letters "Bluhet stets, Vergnugte beide/inbegluckten Wohl ergehn/Gott las es, und mir zur Freunde/auch an den Nachkommen sehn."; cut vertical panels at the base of the bowl; the bottom of the bowl solid; faceted stem consisting of a ball knop above an inverted baluster, both with large air bubbles; domed foot with circular facets cut in a ring at the top; folded rim; ground pontil mark.
