Interpretive Notes
The white glass imitates costly porcelain. Like the adjacent ceramic tankard, it was decorated by craftsmen skilled in cutting gemstones.
Physical DescriptionOpaque white. Mold-blown, cut, copper-wheel engraved. Flask: rectangular body with canted corners; short cylindrical neck with fire-polished rim; flat base cut, with polished pontil mark. Flat faces cut with engraved baldachins: one shows comedian with drinking glass in one hand and bottle in other hand; on reverse, dancing comedian playing tambourine, flanked by two satyrs, above scrolled socles; on ends and
corners, scrolled panels and flowers (Laub- und Bandelwerk); engraved border of stylized flowers around tops of panels.
