Physical DescriptionCovered Goblet with Portrait of Augustus III. Colorless, opaque white non-lead glasses; blown, cut, engraved. (a) Tapered, straight-sided bowl with rounded base; cut band of circular facets below the rim; engraved oval frame with foliate wreath frame, with cemented opaque white bust-length portrait of a man, facing sinister; engraved ribband above inscribed "SAXONIAE/AVGVSTVS R./POLONIAE"; on the reverse an engraved crowned coat of arms of Saxony and Poland; cut facets and engraved stylized leaves at the base of the bowl; stem with merese and capstan above a faceted disk, two mereses, a pincered hollow knop with cut tiny circular facets, three mereses, a faceted disk, a merese, and a capstan; spreading foot with cut scalloped rim, and with engraved stylized leaves and facets; rough pontil mark. (b) Domed form with cut tapered brim; engraved stylized leaves and cut facets; finial with faceted knob above a merese, faceted disk, capstan, and merese; rough pontil mark inside.
