Physical Description"Spearhead Flask" Bottle. Translucent deep purple, with turquoise(?) trail. Blown (body blown in dip mold); applied. Bottle shaped like carrot. Horizontal cross section of body is roughly circular at shoulder, but becomes square about 4 cm above base. Rim plain, with rounded lip; neck cylindrical, tapering slightly, and with prominent bulge near bottom; shoulder slopes, with rounded edge; wall straight, tapering, and curving in at bottom; base flat; pontil mark (W. about 1.4 cm) projects 0.3 cm below base. Mold-blown decoration extends from just below shoulder to about 1 cm above base. It consists of four registers (from top to bottom): (1) band of 30 contiguous flutes (H. 1.8 cm); (2) two bands of about 22 oval depressions, one above other (total H. 1.7 cm); (3) band of 22 contiguous flutes (H. about 3.2 cm), similar to flutes in (1); and (4) two bands of oval depressions (total H. about 2.6 cm), similar to depressions in (2), but indistinct, especially at bottom. Bluish gray trail, perhaps originally turquoise, wound once around rim and 1 1/3 times around top of neck.
