Physical DescriptionTransparent dark amethyst lead glass; blown, sculpted wax coating. Ovoid form, with two wax loop handles; everted neck; separate bell-shaped foot with ball knop, bolted to base; wax coating covering the exterior, sculpted in classical style; border of pairs of narrow ovals alternating with disks on the neck; ring at the base of the neck; band with winged grotesques with scrolled tails, on two sides, with attached leaf-carved wax handles at either side, with masks beneath; wide band on the body, divided into four panels by fluted Ionic columns, the obverse with a seated, crowned man holding a trident (Neptune), a putto above, with a three-headed dog (Cerberus) behind a standing woman, a seated woman and another putto at the right; inscribed above in Greek letters "EOD [?] TOS / KALE / PEROPHATTA"; in the panel to the right, a man and two women standing, inscribed in Greek letters above "KALISTOS / APHRODITE"; in the panel on the reverse, a woman and putto embracing, standing before a seated male figure with staff and a seated female companion, a nude male figure playing on a lyre, and a female figure holding a goblet, inscribed in Greek letters above "KALE / IEUS / NARA / APOLONOS / APHRODITE"; on the panel to the right, a woman holding a lamp above a male figure lying on a couch, inscribed in Greek letters, above "HOPAIS KALOS"; below, a bead-and-reel border; a wide band of putti and floral scrolls; and a band of alternately rounded and pointed gadrooning at the base; interlaced scrolls on the knop; gadrooning and a band of palmettes on the foot; wax line at the rim; polished basal rim.
