Interpretive NotesPhysical DescriptionSnuff Bottle with Stopper Spoon. Opaque turquoise blue glass; blown, carved. (a) Tall, flattened ovoid form; the rim polished flat, with an opening in the top for a stopper and spoon; the sides gently swelling from the neck down; relief-carved Chinese characters on each face, "寿 Shou" (longevity) and "福 Fu" (happiness); relief-carved bats on either side; with swirling clouds above and stylized rocks and foliage at the base; flat, oval face with incised Chinese characters "光绪年制 Guangxu nianzhi". (b) Domed gilt top, with flowers in relief, flared rim; tapered cork shank; long amber-tinted ivory spoon, with thin handle and pointed oval spatulate bowl.
