Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown, cut, engraved. Tapered, straight-sided, cylindrical shape; cut, tapered rim; engraved bands of foliage and polished oval facets below the rim; rectangular panels on the front and back, each with elaborately engraved scenes: one panel with a female figure wearing a helmet and breastplate, in soft, flowing robes, holding a spear in one hand, the other outstretched, within a wooded setting with flowering rose bushes, inscribed in a rectangular panel below "Weisheit" in script; the panel on the other side with a partially draped old man, winged, carrying a scythe in one hand, an hour glass in the other, outstretched; the figure flying in clouds, with tall cedar trees at either side; a rectangular panel below, inscribed "Zeit" in script; between the panels, formal arrangements of flowers and foliage; horizontal bands of fine cross-hatched cutting below, with polished circular facets, each with three slices at the left; petal-cut feet, with cut radial grooves and rounded panels on the bottom.
