Physical DescriptionColorless glass, ormolu; blown, cut, gilded bronze mounts. (a) Cup with hemispherical bowl, flared rim, and circular foot. Plain and diamond-cut carinations decorate the body in a twisted pattern. One of the carinations (opposite the handle) shows the engraved monogram "W". The flat foot has a polished, slightly concave underside with the inscription "Balon/ au Palais Royal/ no. 161 à Paris". It is framed by a circle with diamond pattern. The slender, zoomorphic metal handle is attached to a narrow metal ring stamped with a band of stylized laurel leaves. (b) Deep saucer with twisted carinations similar to those decorating the cup. The flat bottom is deeply cut into rays, alternating six diamond-cut with six plain segments. A metal ring identical to that on the cup encircles the rim.
