Physical DescriptionClear bubbly glass with many impurities and slight green tinge; free-blown, enameled and gilded. Almost cylindrical body slightly tapering towards bottom and rim, high pushed up base with rough pontil mark, foot ring made from same gather; enamel decoration: in multicolored enamel two richly dressed gentlemen with big hats riding on horses proceeding to the right; on the reverse a large flower stalk with green leaves and stems and red, blue and yellow blossoms; the inscriptions on the upper part of the vessel read: "Auff grunner Heydt undt Kuhler erdt Hab ich mich offt Ritterlich gewehrt. Trinck mich ausz unndt schen(k) mich ein Dasz esz erfrischt Das Hertze mein. Frisch wieder frisch ist gut Reitterisch 1656" (refers to the life of a knight and his drinking); below rim a gilded band (partly rubbed off) having a row of festoons of white beads and accompanied by four white plain and two U-shaped lines; a succession of blue, yellow, red and again blue lines, central yellow interrupted frequently by groups of white dots; at bottom a reversed U- shaped line with white dots; white dashes on the foot ring.
