Physical DescriptionClear very bubbly glass with slight green tinge; free-blown and enameled. Cylindrical body with high pushed up base having rough pontil mark and double walled foot ring made of same gather as the Humpen; enamel decoration: on the obverse the representation of the Ochsenkopf, on top against a blue background of rock-like formations, the head of an ox and a white and red church; the edges of the mountain as well as the fronts are covered with heads of game including stags, fawn, hare, fox, and sheep-like animals; at the bottom four rivers flow out of the mountain; on the reverse, in multicolored enamel, a coat of arms, including the Brandenburg eagle and the Wurttemberg antlers, topped by a royal crown, commemorating the marriage of Frederick daughter of Frederick Margraf of Brandenburg - Bayreuth and Karl Eugen, Herzog zu Wurttemberg, 1748; the inscription around the coat of arms reads: "Mit guten Wassern bin Ich Fichtelberg versehen, dass er hell und gesund trutz je an einen ort gar Sauerbrunen jetzt, Zur fromen Heyl entstehen, Sie haben ihren Ruhm bald hier und auch bald dort. VIVAT Brandenburg und Wurthenberger Hausz, Gott lasz Sie leben. Anno 1748." (With good waters am I, Fichtelberg, blessed to make life and health. They have even founded one place sour (mineral) springs which helps health. There fame goes far and wide. Long live Brandenburg...); the inscriptions on the two lower bands are as follows: "Mayn, Eger, Naab, Saal, Trinck mich ausz und vuhl (full) mich wieder, turst (durstet) dich sehr so frisch die klieder (Glieder)." (Names of the four rivers; Empty me and fill me again, if you are very thirsty then refresh your limbs.); below rim a carelessly painted yellow band accompanied by two white lines, underneath the representation, dividing the lower section of the body and the two bands, four white lines; old catalogue number in red at base: "05-244".
