Interpretive Notes
The signatures on both the beaker and cover belong to members of a guild or club. They were engraved between 1574 and 1861.
Physical DescriptionBeaker with Cover. Colorless non-lead glass of grayish cast, silver; free-blown, applied, diamond-point engraved. Slender glass with straight sharply spreading sides, rough pontil mark; silver base; set-in domed cover with drawn stemmed cushion knop, supporting applied final composed of stemmed ball on double-button; small pontil mark inside; cover and glass covered with diamond-point engraved dates (1574-1706), names of guild members, and ditties; silver base with chased crested molding clasping base of glass, wider gadroon molding with leaf-like motif at end of ribs and narrow plain rim.
