Physical DescriptionBrown, translucent glass, appearing black in reflected light; cast. Gem: oval, with flat obverse and reverse, and vertical sides. Intaglio decoration on obverse: oval border containing two cupids after cockfight. On groundline, from left to right: cupid standing to right, with left hand wiping his eye and with dejected rooster at his feet; rooster faces right, with his head down, almost touching ground; behind rooster's head, almost at center of scene, column with fluted shaft, and capital; next to column, second rooster, facing left and with comb erect, standing to full height; on right, second cupid standing frontally, with raised palm frond in his right hand. In background, at level of capital, retrograde inscription: (from right to left) "LAV / .R / MED".
