Physical DescriptionFragment of Beaker. Almost colorless, with yellowish tinge; two narrow streaks of very pale purple; decorated in gold and red. Blown; gilded, enameled. Fragment of beaker. Rim plain, with rounded lip; wall (Th. 0.1-0.2 cm) tapers, with convex profile at top, then straightens and descends at steeper angle. Decoration consists of gilded border on outside of rim, below which is part of register (W. more than 4.4 cm) containing at least five horizontal rows of gilded fish; fish in top and third rows swim toward viewer’s left, while those in second and fourth rows swim toward right. Fish are sketchily executed; each has two pectoral fins, dorsal fin, caudal fin, and triangular tail; outline and occasionally details, such as gills, are drawn in red.Provenance
