Physical DescriptionHeavy clear glass; engraved and cut. (a) Wide spreading foot with rough pontil mark, supporting composite stem consisting of a large inverted baluster flanked by two knops; round funnel bowl; the knops of the stem, the upper part of the baluster, the ring at the bottom, the upper part of the foot and the lower bowl are faceted; cut panels on the lower baluster as well as around the lower bowl; the elaborate engraved decoration consists on the obverse of the profile bust of Elizabeth Petrovna, turned to the right; above her a baroque panel with Imperial orb with cross; two large curtains on the left and right are suspended from the shield and held by two angels; at the bottom a panel with flowers flanked by more elaborate panels with diamond cutting; on the outer left and right are arms and flags; on the reverse the double headed crowned Imperial eagle having at the center a medallion containing the cipher of Elizabeth Petrovna with I; the eagle is framed by a scroll medallion as well as tendril motifs; around rim a band of polished ovals and bundles of vertical dashes; on the underside of the foot a leaf wreath.
