Physical DescriptionTransparent very bubbly greenish glass with many impurities; wear marks at base, free-blown, enameled and gilded. Almost cylindrical humpen with pushed up base having very rough pontil mark, applied foot ring; excess threads on interior body; enamel decoration: the scene gives a moralizing illustration on quarreling students; the main scene consists, in multicolored enamel, of a donkey moving to the right and led by a man - all the men are dressed in rather 2 elaborate costumes with large black hats - one leading a donkey and holding with his left hand a plate with a large piece of butter; a student half lying and half sitting on a donkey and tries to cut a piece of butter with a big knife while his hair is being cut by another man standing behind the donkey; in a skin bag suspended from the donkey is a student who struggles uncomfortably with another man; behind this scene is a group of men on a smaller scale consisting of five, three apparently engaged in a fist fight while two older and bearded ones are sitting at a table apparently commenting on the fight; the inscriptions read: "Der mitt den Esell sprichtt/Mein Esell Der musz sein gerust/Ein jden der Bald Zornig Jst/Ty liber denck doch selber Hir/Was Zeiget dihr doch das Arme thir/Willstu dich Stellen So Zorniklich/So nim den Butterweck vohr dich/mitt den kompstu leicht uber ein/Er ist fein weich und hatt kein Bein. Der Auffm Esel spricht/Wilstu Ein Zorniger Ritter sein/So Scher Jch dihr Ein Platten fein/Der Jm Sack sprichtt/Gross Hi(ch) mut tut man An mir ub(e)n den Jch bin gar in Sack getriben"; "Die Zech gesellen sprechen/Sihe hir verstehestu gar kein Schimpff/und hebest so an ein ungelimpff/Kom Kom lasz uns nur nicht lang schwetzen/mus dich auch auf den Esell setzen.
