Physical DescriptionSemi-opaque white glass with black, brownish-red, grayish-green, and yellow enamels; blown, tooled, rim finished at glory hole; decorated with fired enamels. Jar: egg-shaped; rim everted with plain lip; wall descends, curving outward to greatest diameter about 4.0 cm below lip and then curving gently inward to bottom; conical base with tubular edge made by folding and low, domed kick; pontil mark. Decorated on one side of wall with polychrome enamels: garland consisting of two brownish-red serrated leaves springing from brownish-red rose flower at center of bottom and meeting at top with grayish-green rose leaves behind flower and outside lower parts of serrated leaves, and two horizontal brownish-red ribbons streaming outward from flower; supported by garland, brownish-red and yellow crown with high domed cap surmounted by orb with cross; two wavy brownish-red ribbons extend outward and downward from sides of crown; inside garland, two lines of inscription in capitals below orb with cross: LAP.CALA/MIN PP, the orb being brownish-red, the cross black, the initial letters L and C and the final letters PP being brownish-red and the other letters black, all letters having serifs, the As having a V-shaped crossbar, and the letters PP having a black ligature through the upright strokes.Provenance
