Physical DescriptionLithyalin Beaker. Transparent deep red-purple and smoky turquoise glass (in reflected light the glass looks brick red and opaque black); free-blown and probably overlaid or flashed. Concave paneled body with incurving bottom part, also paneled and apparently tooled; concave smooth base, plain spreading, short rim; in reflected light the bottom part is red as well as every second panel while the other panels appear black or dark green; viewed from the inside the beaker is red and, in transmitted light alternatingly red and green; around the central portion of the beaker with one letter on each panel is the word "ANDENKEL." accompanied above and below by butterfly and blossoms as well as little leaf sprays; around the bottom part of body small leaf sprays, on the base a large butterfly; rim as well as the lower termination of the panels are gilded; the edge of the base is notched.Provenance
