Physical DescriptionCarafe and Beaker. Clear heavy glass overlaid with milkglass; heavy wear marks at base; free-blown, enameled and gilded. The carafe is almost spherical body with flattened bottom and concave base with pontil mark; concave neck spreading to rim; beaker slightly tapering downwards with slightly concave center and plain rim, fitting into a cut groove at shoulder of carafe; both objects have been overlaid with milkglass and then cut to form rectangles in relief standing out against a clear background, decorating the body of the carafe as well as the beaker; the overlay is also visible at the bottom of the carafe and around the edges and the rim of the neck of the carafe which has been paneled; every second diagonally oriented sequence of panels has been enameled turquoise blue alternating with two diagonally oriented rows of panels in white, one row bearing painted roses, the other bearing a gilded rosette and cross motifs; all edges of these panels as well as the rings around the shoulder, the edges of the panels on the neck, and the rims of the carafe and beaker are gilded; a star has been cut through the white glass at the bottom of the beaker.Provenance
