Physical DescriptionAmethyst non-lead glass; blown, enameled, pewter mount. Cylindrical form with white enameled decoration with white enameled decoration with black details: three arches, one (to the right of the handle) containing a chained heart topped by two doves, and with clasped hands and crossed feathers, inscribed "Ich liebe die Treu"; the center panel with a flowering plant, inscribed "Unsere freund-/schafft sol bestehen, bis wir/mit der welt vergehen" and the date "1739"; in the third panel are a winged heart and a serpent, and the inscription "Die falschheit ich scheu"; applied strap handle enameled with a white foliate design; flat base with short kick and rough pontil mark; flat pewter cover hinged to handle, with molded gadrooning and gadrooned ball finial; impressed oval mark of an angel of Justice with the initials "A" and "M" at either side.Provenance
