Physical DescriptionColorless, transparent dark blue non-lead glasses; blown, overlaid, cut, engraved. (a) Tapered, straight-sided, cylindrical body; blue overlay on colorless; cut plain rim, with some blue left at the top; cut oval panel on the side, with plain framing bands, enclosing a relief-engraved ("lithophane") depiction of a prancing horse in blue, on a matte, colorless background, with blue ground and grass; six cut circular facets in a ring around one facet on the reverse ("reducing lenses"), flanked by sprays of ivy leaves and vines; cut rectangular panels on the base; stem with short, panel-cut capstan above a faceted flattened ball knop, and short, panel-cut capstan at the base; domed foot, with rounded panel cutting at the rim; cut petal foot rim; cut radial ribs on the bottom. (b) Domed shape; blue overlay on colorless; pointed, ovoid, panel-cut, colorless finial, with flaring attachment; domed cover, with panel cutting at the top, a band of ivy below; cut oval facets on the edge; inset brim, with polished, flat rim.
