Physical DescriptionColorless, transparent red and gold-flecked non-lead glasses; blown, cut. (a) Thistle-shaped bowl; cut decoration: band of wide and narrow ovals around the rim, oval panels each enclosing oval and circular facets forming stylized flowers, with bands of cut oval facets on matte grounds between; pointed oval panels around the bowl base, with matte ground and oval facets between; stem composed of double merese above panel-cut ovoid knop containing gold and red spiral threads, two mereses, panel-cut inverted baluster containing red and gold spiral threads, and base merese; wide circular foot decorated with bands of cut oval facets; polished pontil mark. (b) Domed shape with folded rim and inset flange; decorated with oval panels and facets matching those on (a); finial composed of panel-cut pointed-ovoid knop and facet-cut flattened ball knop, each enclosing gold and red spiral threads, separated by mereses; rough pontil mark.Provenance
