Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown, enameled. Straight-sided, cylindrical form, with rounded base and slightly concave bottom; the sides with matte black enamel decoration, including three coats of arms, the largest, central shield with an eagle on a shield, the frame alternating light and dark, inscribed "S" at the bottom; smaller, quartered shields at left and right, that at the left with bends sinister in the first and fourth quarters and lions rampant in the second and third; the shield at the right a mirror image; the larger shield with florid mantling, and surmounted by a helmet with peacock feather crest bearing an "S"; within a bound foliate-wreath frame; a continuous landscape covering the remainder of the glass, running around the bottom; with a large, broken column, with two figures and a dog standing at the base; signed to the right "IS." in an overlapping monogram; a lake, buildings, four figures, tree stump, and rocks in the remainder of the landscape; concave bottom with rough pontil mark, inscribed "291" in cream-colored paint; three flattened ball (bun) feet applied to the base rim.Provenance
