Interpretive Notes
This beaker is double-walled: the interior glass is gilded, and the exterior glass is painted. Both the paint and the gilding were applied cold, and they are sandwiched between the glasses.
Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown, cut, double-walled, gilt, painted. Tapered, straight-sided, cylindrical shape; double- walled, the two glasses meeting in a double rim at the top; with the painted and gilt decoration between the inner and outer glasses; the exterior cut with narrow vertical panels; inset circular disk on the bottom; painted dark green, brown and tan marbled decoration on the sides and bottom; gilt on the interior; gilt band with scratched line on the exterior, at the rim.
