Physical DescriptionClear heavy glass with very large bubbles and slight grey tinge; wear marks at base; free-blown, enameled and gilded. (a) Almost cylindrical body slightly tapering at top and bottom, with high pushed up base having rough pontil mark, applied foot ring; (b) the cover (probably not belonging originally to it) with flange and dome, bulge at top supporting a double finial; enamel decoration: the body is divided into two registers each including four square panels divided from each other by gilded band accompanied by red lines; the panels enclose at top the figure of the German Emperor riding on a white horse to the left accompanied by three Electors, also on white horses; at the bottom three more electors proceeding to the right as well as one panel with the double headed eagle and the date above: "Anno 1625"; grass strips and grass tufts as well as lily-of- the-valley stalks along the bottom of each panel; the accompanying inscriptions identify the figures as follows: "Romischer Keyser. Churf. Trier - Colln-Mentz - Sachssen - Pfaltz - Brandenburg"; below rim a row of lily-of-the-valley blossoms and a row of white beads, at bottom a yellow and blue strip, white dashes on the foot ring; on the dome of the cover a stylized palmette frieze with a large and small red, blue and yellow blossoms, multicolored leaf wreath in blue on the first bulge, on the lower knop a band of stylized multicolored leaves, the finial is painted red with white dashes, the top is gilded, white dashes and gilded sections on the flange, between flange and dome a gilded band accompanied by two red and one yellow line.
