Physical DescriptionClear extremely bubbly glass with slight grey tinge; free-blown, enameled and gilded. (a) Almost cylindrical body, slightly tapering at top and bottom, with pushed up base having slight pontil mark, applied foot ring; enamel decoration: deep purple and white double headed Empire eagle with a blue orb surmounted by a yellow scepter cross, yellow ring halos, on the wings multicolored coats of arms of the parts of the Holy Roman Empire, at the end of the wings two flaming symbols; on the reverse three gilded diamond-star ornaments accompanied by white scroll motifs as well as red beads, at the lower portion: "1632", below rim a gold band (partly rubbed off) accompanied by two rows of white beads, below the gold band: "Das heilige Romische Reich mitt sampt seinen Gliedern." in Gothic script; (b) large flanged cover made of similar looking but much heavier glass; domed, surmounted by a large flat bulge which in turn is surmounted by a finial consisting of a bladed and a stemmed elongated solid knop; on the flange white dashes, on the upper bulge which in turn is surmounted by a finial consisting of a blade and a stemmed elongated solid knop; on the flange white dashes, on the dome motifs identical to the ones on the reverse of the Humpen, white dashes on the upper bulge, on the blade yellow dashes, on the finial a yellow cap with yellow, blue and red dashes.Provenance
